With us looking at Red Hole yesterday, Thad Murdoch mentioned Blue Hole up de road… which of course had us looking into more of “What’s in a Name”.
Often we pass by little bays and outlets without realising that they even have a name.  Especially on Harbour Road where it is all eyes on the narrow corners ahead.
Blue Hole is la picturesque cove located just east of Chapel Road, with White’s Island offering protection to it from the north.  It provides a safe anchorage for pleasure craft and sail boats.
The meaning comes from the Age of Sail.  The designation ‘hole’ indicated a water depth sufficient to accommodate the draught of fairly large sailing ships, and the other half of the title refers to the colour of Blue Hole’s effervescent turquoise waters.
