Surface high pressure maintains its hold, providing dry weather with plenty of sunshine into mid-week. Thereafter, Hurricane Fiona will approach the island from the southwest, with a projected track to pass to our west Thursday night. Local conditions will begin to deteriorate late on Wednesday. The BWS will continue to closely monitor the progress of Fiona to the distant south.

A sunny morning ahead.  And we have a beautiful north wind!

Surface high pressure regains control and will maintain mostly dry and sunny weather through the mid-week. Thereafter, what will likely be Hurricane Fiona will begin to approach the island from the southwest with conditions beginning to deteriorate from early as Thursday. We will continue to closely monitor the progress of Fiona over the coming days.

Right then… This Fiona story is starting to catch our attention.

No idea what this hurricane is going to do at this time, so there’s no need to panic. However, one might want to think about preparing because it is a very large storm with forecasted very high winds. And, it looks like this part of the season is going to be a little hairy for us. You don’t want to get caught in the hurricane madness next week.

FIONA

At 200 AM AST (0600 UTC), the centre of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.3 North, longitude 62.8 West. Fiona is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). A westward to west-northwestward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected through Sunday night. A turn toward the northwest is forecast on Monday.

On the forecast track, the centre of Fiona is expected to move near or just south of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico today into Sunday, and approach the southern or eastern coast of the Dominican Republic Sunday afternoon. Fiona is forecast to move across the Dominican Republic Sunday night and Monday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and Fiona could be near hurricane strength when it reaches the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the centre.

Got some rain last night!  And here comes the sun again.

Good news:  We have a breeze!  And it’s from the north!  As a frontal boundary exits to our east, expect isolated to scattered showers to linger while occasionally breezy and gusty conditions persist into tonight. High pressure then brings a return of clearer skies by late Sunday. Slight to moderate seas build moderate to near rough today and then ease thereafter.

You know how when you step outside and breathe in the fresh crisp air first thing in the morning it feels so good? Yeah, well that’s not happening here.

A front is gradually moving into the area, bringing cloudier skies and a few showers into the weekend. Winds are also expected to become quite breezy and gusty during Saturday as an area of low pressure passes nearby. Calm seas are going to build again for the weekend.

High pressure brings clear skies for the moment with light to moderate winds, with a chance of early isolated showers. From Thursday onwards, conditions turn unsettled as a trough and front gradually move into the area. Moderate seas abate over the next few days becoming slight to moderate.

Another blue skied day with a very light breeze

It looks like we may be out of those high 80s and now hovering around the mid.  And that’s of course a good thing.

High pressure continues to bring clear skies over the next couple of days with plenty of sunshine. Tomorrow we start to see a change, as a trough and front approaches from the northwest. Skies are slated to turn cloudier with a few showers developing from then into the latter part of the week.
